A little too early

There are a lot of beautiful sights and sounds in the world. If we are blessed, we get the opportunity to experience them in our lifetime! For the past few days I feel like one of those blessed people (or am I?) The sight I speak of, is nature’s glorious colour palette that you witness at the break of dawn, the sound of chirping birds and the fragrance of early morning dew drops, the sensation of warm sunlight on your skin, the smell of brewing coffee.... Well that’s a postcard morning, the description of what it should feel like, in some alternate universe!

My experience on the other hand is something out of a not-so-pretty picture. Only, and I mean only, when I have to work (or take the dreaded early morning flight)do I wake up at the crack of dawn. These splendorous sights I simply cannot take in, as at this hour, my eyes rise up in rebellion and pretty much refuse to open. They are comrades in the puffiness battle and wage a mighty battle too.

The sounds of the chirping birds are mercilessly drowned out by the cacophonous symphony of my two phone alarms (because I need two to wake up, maybe even three) and then my backing vocals of grumbling and whining as I play hide and seek with the snooze button for another twenty minutes. The fresh dew drops replaced by the smell of fear, the fear that my whole day is gonna be this big haze of insane grogginess. The warm sunlight is replaced by a cold shower and coffee becomes more than just a beverage. It is the elixir of life at 5am.

As a kid, I often heard certain auntys and uncles say “Wake up!! Sleeping late is not good for you!!” Would they let you sleep in even on holidays? No! Of course not! They start what I call the ‘Vitamin D’ speech. This is that speech that contains all the salient features of why it is essential to witness dawn starting with how the early morning rays are the richest source of vitamin D, then ofcourse vitality of mind and body blah blah blah.. I know its true but I’m just not buying it! I’m more of a midnight miracle person. My best ideas happen past 12 am.

So, as I was saying, in the past few days, I have witnessed far too many breaking dawns and the only friends awake at the time are in a different country, in another time zone. There is one thing though that’s pretty neat about jumping out of bed early! While the others are still dreaming, you’re up making it happen and possibly trying to make some of them come true and guess what? You got a lead and you’re already ahead of the game! On that good note its time to attack my second coffee of the day!
