The year 2010 witnessed many events. If Commonwealth Games were the most awaited, Obama’s visit was a delightful surprise. As the year ends tonight, we take a look at five major events that Delhi saw for the first time.

Commonwealth Games
Amid collapsing infrastructure and filthy lodging facilities casting a shadow on the fate of the Commonwealth Games, thousands of artistes continued to rehearse for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in the Capital. And what a glittering ceremony it was.

Metro to Gurgaon
This year Metro connected Anand Vihar to GK 1 and Huda City Centre to Khan Market. This means that the residents of Rohini can easily access the malls in Saket and those from Sarita Vihar can spend an evening at India Gate without getting stuck in traffic jams. Plus, Delhi’s regional divides got narrower.

Men’s Hockey World Cup
Delhi hosted the 12th edition of the Men’s Hockey World Cup. The event took place at Dhyan Chand National Stadium from February 28 to March 13. The very first day of the event saw a much awaited action packed match between India and Pakistan, which India won.

Barack Obama’s visit
Delhi welcomed the US president with great pomp. The first lady Michelle Obama, accompanied her husband to places like Humayun’s tomb and Raj Ghat. Also, Michelle shopped at the National Handicrafts and Handloom Museum and bought lots of souvenirs.
