Right before her debut with Aamir Khan in Kiran Rao’s Dhobi Ghat, singer-turned-actor Monica Dogra says that Khan taught her a lot: “The one thing I take back is his professionalism and the way he treats everyone he works with.”
Any fun memories of the actor? “One evening, we all sat on a terrace in Juhu. Some people sang songs while others recited poems. Aamir sang a couple of songs. He loves to sing. It was wonderful singing with him at the break of dawn. Memories like that are not created everyday,” Dogra says.
Of her co-star Prateik Babbar, who regularly attends her music shows, Dogra says, "He has been my friend for a long time before the movie and he knew of my music much before we actually met," says Dogra.
She admits that Rao was the primary reason she agreed to do the film, “Kiran is an incredibly intelligent woman who knows exactly what she wants. Apparently she had seen me on the cover of a magazine and liked my picture. I was touring in London with my band Shaa’ir and + Func when I was called to audition for the role.”

{{/usCountry}}Dogra plays an NRI who comes back to re-discover Mumbai in the film. She says she wasn’t directed in the conventional sense. “Kiran took effort to cast the right kind of people to represent the characters she wrote. She asked me to put a lot of my own personal experience, interactions and reactions into the way I played my character,” Dogra reveals.
