Olympic gold medallist, shooter Abhinav Bindra, recently elbowed out competitors including MS Dhoni, Vijender Singh, Saina Nehwal and Pankaj Advani to be voted India Youth Icon for Sports, decided through a nation-wide poll last week.
Talking about the honour, Bindra says, “It’s about inspiring the young generation to be worthwhile and contribute to society. And I guess I have been able to inspire a few people in some way.”
In light of the rumours that Pankaj Advani has signed on to act in a Bollywood movie based on his life, will he ever consider something similar? “At this point of time in my life, I haven’t thought along those lines. But yes, if
someone finds me deserving to make a movie based on my life, I may consider acting in it if the script does justice to my sport,” he answers. That said, he confesses he’s not a hardcore Bollywood buff. “The last movie I watched was Love Aaj Kal. It was strictly okay,” he says with a shrug.
About the cancellation of the Shooting World Cup, he says, “Statistically, it’s not such a big blow. However, as the host country, it’d have been wonderful for our morale to conduct a successful championship before the Commonwealth Games.”
