Andrews in Golden Globe race

Naveen Andrews, a British actor of Indian origin, has been nominated for a Golden Globe award for his role as an Iraqi in the popular BBC serial Lost.

Naveen Andrews, a British actor of Indian origin, has been nominated for a Golden Globe award for his role as an Iraqi in the popular BBC serial Lost.

Andrews, who first landed a role in Hanif Qureshi's London Kills Me, memorably portrayed the 'Sikh bloke' in The English Patient. He was Balraj Bingley in Gurinder Chadha's Bride and Prejudice.

Gay cowboy film Brokeback Mountain has seven nominations, including best picture, best actor for Heath Ledger, best actress for Michelle Williams and best director for Ang Lee. The others in the best picture category are the John Le Carre thriller The Constant Gardener, George Clooney's Good Night And Good Luck, mobster story A History Of Violence and Woody Allen's London film Match Point.

Pride And Prejudice, Mrs Henderson Presents, the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line, The Squid And The Whale and the film version of The Producers have been nominated for best musical or comedy picture.

Welsh-born actor Sir Anthony Hopkins will be honoured with the Cecil B DeMille award for lifetime achievement.
