The 32-year-old pop star wrote the essay a media initiative led by journalist and former California first lady Maria Shriver, that aims to document and discuss societal trends that impact women, People magazine reported.

Writing under her full name, Beyonce Knowles-Carter, the singer said that today, women make up half of the U.S. workforce, but the average working woman earns only 77 percent of what the average working man makes, claiming that unless women and men both say this is unacceptable, things will not change.
