In the 13 years since the first multiplex opened in south Delhi’s Saket, movie viewing in the Capital has changed from being mere paisa vasool. Today you can get a range of ‘luxury’ conveniences — from fancy lounges to recliner sofas and fancy food. You can also get a personal attendant, a blanket and cushions. But it comes at a steep price.

A ‘gold class’ experience at PVR Select City Walk in Saket and PVR Ambience Mall in Gurgaon costs you between Rs 550 (on weekdays) and 800 (on weekends). It gets you a greater variety in food, 180-degree recliner seats and an attendant on call. Noida Wave Cinemas has a ‘platinum lounge’ offering similar benefits for Rs 500-700. Select City Walk’s lounge that serves dimsums, pastas and mocktails, while the Ambience PVR serves alcoholic beverages too.
Now you can get all of the above — minus the alcohol — for much cheaper at Big Cinema Odeon’s ‘platinum class’. Sink into a two-seater sofa at this refurbished Connaught Place landmark and let the attendant take care of you — all for Rs 350. The food is not different from that available to the other ticket holders, but the garlic-and-cheese popcorn is worth a try. There’s just one glitch — the sofas don’t recline.
