Tom Cruise turns 48 today. This year, in many ways, could be his golden year. One simple reason is that Cruise has made his big league comeback in style with James Mangold’s action comedy, Knight And Day, also toplining Cameron Diaz .
Reports say that the movie is packed with daring stunts given Cruise’s new addiction to speed. He rides the Ducati Hypermotard superbike in it.
Throughout the filming, Cruise and the superbike were inseparable. The star insisted on performing all his stunts himself, a throwback to his 1990 film, Days Of Thunder, when Cruise performed all his speed stunts on the F1 circuit.
Clearly, Cruise is a man in control. And Hollywood’s biker boy after the movie has added the Ducati Hypermotard 110 series to his fleet. A fitting birthday gift! Bollywood’s own easy rider, producer-director Sanjay Gupta, who has his own fleet of bikes, isn’t too impressed. "I have ridden the Ducati and though I agree it is one of the best superbikes in the world and a speed junkie’s dream, I am one of the few who don’t favour it."
Gupta, whose fleet of cruise bikes includes the Yamaha MT-01, which cost him a whopping Rs 11 lakh, is now planning to buy the new edition of the 2010 Yamaha VMax. On his next road trip, Gupta will hop onto his Royal Enfield and ride from Delhi to Leh at the end of July.
