Actor-singer Shruti Haasan has said that because she grew up in the limelight, she felt that her family didn't belong only to her. Shruti is the daughter of actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika.

In an interview, she was asked about her relationship with Shantanu Hazarika, and how she seems to be rather 'guarded' about her personal life.

"I am not hiding anything; that’s not my nature. It is too much effort to keep things a secret and I had decided early on that was what I didn’t need in my life. However, I have also not had too much personal life, because I have grown up in front of people from a very early age. My own family felt like it didn’t belong only to me, so I am instinctively a little guarded about my personal life. I am not complaining but that’s how it has panned out for me," she told a leading daily.

Shruti in a recent interview spoke about her youth, and her parents' separation. She told Zoom in an interview, "I was just excited for them (her parents) to live their own lives. I was glad they separated as I do not think two people who are not getting along, should get along for some reason. They continue to be wonderful parents. I am particularly close to my dad. My mum is doing well and is a part of our lives as well. It actually panned out for the best."
