Barney Stinson, Neil Patrick Harris’ character on the TV show How I Met Your Mother is, perhaps, the only television character to have a book published in his name. Penned by one of the show’s writers, Matt Kuhn, The Bro Code is a comprehensive and exhaustive set of rules for male friendships, as demonstrated on the show.

The character is arguably the biggest draw for the show. Barney’s serial womanising ways, combined with cocksure witticisms have accorded him a cult status among fans here.

Barney’s the Bro
Be it the ease with which he picks up girls or the sureness with which he establishes rules that he deems fit, Barney’s pearls of wisdom have become the principles that several young men in the city swear by. The creators promptly cashed in on the overwhelming response to The Bro Code by publishing a book on the subject.

But is it really taken that seriously by brethren in our city? For Mazahir Mandasaurwala, a marketing executive, says The Bro Code is a reaffirmation of existing norms of male bonhomie. “We guys have always looked out for each other, but the show has made me more conscious of how to sustain my bond with other guys,” he says.
