After Osian’s, the 5th CMS Vatavaran — the environment and wildlife film festival — kicks off today, showcasing 106 films in 16 categories like livelihood and national heritage conservation.

It’s the perfect time to take a break from commercial cinema and enjoy films with a difference. After Osian’s, the 5th CMS Vatavaran — the environment and wildlife film festival — kicks off today, showcasing 106 films in 16 categories like livelihood and national heritage conservation.

Delhiites have a reason to cheer since 28 nominated entries are by filmmakers from the Capital. The theme of the festival this year is Climate Change and sustainable Technologies. Narender Yadav of CMS says, “We got 366 entries from 23 countries, out of which 106 films have been nominated for the various awards. There will be various parallel events like workshops, eco-tourism etc.”

The nominated filmmakers include Krishnendu Bose, Mike Pandey and Jay Mazoomdaar. Says Mazoomdaar, whose films Pushed to Kill and In Their Elements have been nominated, “In Their Elements, which I’ve made with Inder Kathuria, was shot in Lahaul Spiti where villagers have no electricity for six months. “The films shows the solution in the solar-wind hybrid system (SWHS).”
