Shyam Tagde, MD, Film City, Goregaon confirms that a Bollywood Museum will be set up in either Film City or Gorai soon. “The project is in a very nascent stage. We want to hold meetings with people from the industry for their suggestions. I called for a meeting with members but only Nitin Desai (director) turned up, among a few others,” says Tagde.
Desai, he says, was to submit a proposal for the museum but Tagde’s office is yet to receive it. Now, he is contemplating hiring consultants for further proceedings. “We want to take this forward,” he says determinedly. Ask him what will be in the museum and Tagde says that they have not reached that stage yet. “I can’t say what will be made available yet. It will depend on many factors and we will definitely need all the help we can get from the industry,” says Tagde who is eager that the project be implemented within the Film City premises.

The museum, it is learnt, will have a section on costumes worn by stars or props like weapons and jewellery. Path-breaking technology and equipment used in the making of films may also find a place. A gallery of photographs of famous movie personalities, a section exhibiting old cinema tickets and movie posters is also in the offing.

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile the Central government has allocated a sizeable amount of Rs 114 crore for the promotion of the entire film industry in the city. It has announced that it will build a museum for this sake.
“It’s not just a Bollywood museum. It will showcase Indian cinema,” says V Packirisamy, director of the Film Division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, before saying that regional cinema will play a significant role. “We are also trying to make the experience interactive,” says Packirisamy.
National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) will play an important role in helping the film division decide on what should be in the museum. “We are no experts, but NCSM will guide us on what to exhibit and how,” says Packirisamy who is optimistic that the museum should be ready by 2014.
