The Fahrenheit 9/11 director, a Leftist, suggested so to a liberal politics blog. Damon, 40, who campaigned for the Democrats in 2008, is a poster boy for left-wing criticism ever since his Good Will Hunting days, slamming Obama’s controversial education policies, saying he “mishandled his mandate”.

“So Moore calls attention to self by saying Matt Damon should primary Obama AND at same time has new book? What a coincidence,” wrote a Twitter user, Dub Pool. At BigHollywood.com, bloggers have weighed in on the matter just about daily. Editor John Nolte wrote, “Matt Damon is nothing more than a political animal and propaganda-spewing machine.”

Country music star Larry Gatlin says Damon is “a perfect example again of an artsy-fartsy letting their alligator mouth overwhelm their hummingbird ass. He does not know what he’s talking about.” But, a poll by the Guardian revealed that 76% of participants would vote for him if he indeed ran for the chair. Damon is yet to comment on the affair. Before him, actors George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Alec Baldwin and TV show host Oprah Winfrey have been among the favourites for presidency.
