Even at the age of 75, actor Dharmendra’s energy gives many young actors, a run for their money. Ask him about the reason behind his evergreen charm and pat comes the reply, “I feel young at heart and therefore, I don’t let age overpower me. You only feel as old as you think you are.”
About his upcoming comedy movie, Yamla Pagla Deewana, all set to release, the actor, who has worked in more than 200 movies in his career that spans over five decades in the industry, says, “It was a picnic throughout this movie. It’s a great script — a mix of thrill, emotion and comedy, which really attracted me.
Triple Trouble
In the film, Dharmendra shares screen space with sons Sunny and Bobby after Apne (2007) and their coming together, is something a lot of people are looking forward to.
But the actor shares that the movie, initially, did not have him. “When we had planned this movie, the film only had Sunny and Bobby and was titled Double Trouble. But as that title was registered with someone else we couldn’t get it. It was then that I joked that why not make it Triple Trouble and even I’ll act in the film. And that’s how I came into the movie.” he says.
On the experience of working with his sons, he says, “Hum to abhi bhi gaonwaale hai. (We are still villagers) There is respect for parents and certain rules are followed. But when the camera rolls, we work as professionals. Bahut mazaa aata hai ek saath kaam karne mein. (It’s a lot of fun to work together)”

Talking about his kids, how could we not ask him about daughter Esha Deol with whom he will be seen sharing the screen in Hema Malini’s upcoming film Tell me Oh Khuda. “My daughters are closer to me than my sons. I’m looking for a suitable match for Esha. Like any concerned father, I want her to settle down with a nice guy.”
A nice Punjabi guy?, we interrupt. And he says, “Hopefully, a nice Punjabi guy. But let’s see”.
Lastly, when asked about the news of his grandson Karan Deol (Sunny Deol’s son) making his Bollywood debut, he says, “You’ll know about it when it happens.”
Interestingly, not many would know that the veteran actor is writing a script for a movie and says, “Yes, I am writing the script but there is a lot to be done. I will talk to you in detail when the time is right.”
