He was admitted to Lilavati hospital in suburban Bandra on Sunday after suffering a heart attack.

"He (Dilip Kumar) is recovering. He is still in ICU and is under observation... but all is well. There is nothing to worry. He will have to be there in hospital for three more days," sources close to the actor told PTI today.

He had undergone a heart surgery 14 years ago.

Dilip Kumar was born Muhammad Yusuf Khan on December 11, 1922, in Peshawar (now in Pakistan).

With a film career spanning six decades, he was the first to receive Filmfare Best Actor honour when the awards were started in 1954. With eight wins, Dilip Kumar shares with Shah Rukh Khan the record for the most number of Filmfare awards won in that category.

The legendary actor acted in films like Andaz (1949), Aan (1952), Devdas (1955), Azaad (1955), Mughal-e-Azam (1960), Ganga Jamuna (1961) as a hero. He played character roles in movies like Shakti (1982), Karma (1986) and Saudagar (1991). His last film was Qila (1998).

He was also nominated to Rajya Sabha for a term from 2000 to 2006.

In 1998, he was awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, the highest civilian award conferred by the government of Pakistan.
