"I had been shooting all night for Mere Brother Ki Shaadi in Patiala. We wrapped up at 6 am. I then drove to Chandigarh, caught the flight to Mumbai and dashed straight to Film City to chat up Karan (Johar) and Ranbir (Kapoor) on Koffee With Karan,” recalls Imran Khan.

You won’t believe this when you see him on the episode that airs this Sunday. Khan looks daisy fresh and shares an easy camaraderie with Kapoor, putting to rest rumours about a rivalry and a rift between the two. “There was absolutely no stress or awkwardness,” he reiterates, adding cheekily that it’s easier for a guy (read actor) to be friends with a competitive colleague than a girl.Surprisingly, Kapoor and Khan only became buddies after they started working in the movies, even though they had known each other socially for years. Personally, they are poles apart.

Imran-Ranbir

"I don’t think Ranbir is seeing anyone right now, while I’m involved with planning my wedding. Yes, we’ve set the date, you’ll hear it soon, for now it’s enough to say that it will be in early January," says Khan, who has been committed to Avantika Malik for the last eight years and believes that marriage is a natural progression for a relationship that has helped him grow as a person. "I used to be so reserved, now I’m more expressive and balanced."

Johar admits to being charmed by the duo’s carefree ways and refreshing candour. “Their approach to a question is different from that of someone from my generation. And it’s amazing that despite their frankness, they never once crossed the line. For me the highpoint of the show was when ‘dosti’ turned to ‘dostana’,” he says, referring to their ‘kiss’.

So, is he planning a Dostana with them? “I’m already doing Dostana 2 with John (Abraham) and Abhishek (Bachchan). But I’d love to bring them together on screen, I’ve worked individually with both, in I Hate Luv Storys and Wake Up Sid! and they have become Dharma Productions’ blue-eyed boys. In fact, any filmmaker who sees them on the show will want to cast them,” Johar asserts.

Khan admits that there have been plenty of offers but nothing that’s made them say, “This is it!” After hosting a high-rated awards show together and then having a blast on Koffee With Karan, both actors want to wait for the right movie to come along. “If the script is great, we could even produce the movie together. The thought has crossed our minds,” says Khan. “As far as movies go, we are on the same page.”
