“What rubbish! It’s the same face and the same body,” says Hema Malini, reacting to reports that Esha was in a clinic for months. “The press makes a story when it’s starved,” continues a fuming Hema. “My daughter has Dharamji’s and my genes.

He’s handsome at his age and I think I’m fairly good-looking too. So how can my child not be like us? She’s gifted with a beautiful face and a great body. Why would she have to undergo any corrective treatment?”

Apparently, Esha, who has not been seen in a film for a while, gets incessant phone calls from tabloids, and when she refuses to reply, stories about facelifts appear. “My daughter is concentrating on her dance and exercise. That keeps her fit. Botox and surgery are not for her age. Maybe after 40, some stars need it. That will never be my daughter,” states Hema.

She is proud that Esha has no industry flings to her name. “She doesn’t have boyfriends or even boys who are her friends… She will find a suitable man, ask for my permission and marry him. I’m also on the lookout for an appropriate groom for her,” says Hema.

Esha’s career may look moribund, but Hema says that she has advised her daughter to reject films with multiple heroines, even if that means waiting. As for chhoti beti Ahana, her forte is fashion, not films. “She’s setting up her own fashion collection right now, which she will show very soon,” promises mama Malini.

Asked about comic radio spots on Dharmendra and herself, she replies, “We don’t mind. Imitation is the best form of flattery, right?”
