Farewell, dear friends

This is sort-of a letter, rather than a column. I feel I can write you a letter, because after fourteen months of writing this column, I feel quite comfortable you, not quite as if I know you, but certainly as if you know me, writes Anoushka Shankar.

This is sort-of a letter, rather than a column. I feel I can write you a letter, because after fourteen months of writing this column, I feel quite comfortable you, not quite as if I know you, but certainly as if you know me, and that therefore I have a strong sense of you out there.

This is my last column for the “Celeb and the City” series, and I’d like to thank you (those few of you who may actually be reading this) for your time. It’s been amazing receiving all your letters and hearing your responses to my thoughts, both when you agree, and when you want to share an alternate viewpoint. Also, for musicians, the form in which we share ourselves with other people is quite abstract (especially in instrumental music where there are no lyrics to help specify content). That’s part of what I love about music, because it’s nice that listeners can have their own individual experiences without having to know the details of mine. However, writing in this direct manner has been a wonderful process for me; and I’ve loved the opportunity to write in such specific ways about where I’m at, what I’m going through, what pisses me off or makes me happy, and things I want to share. So thank you for supporting me through that.
