Fashion Choreographer Rashmi Virmani on her days at Jesus and Mary College where she graduated in Eco Hons in 1985. JMC is really not like a school as popular perception suggests. It’s just that there are many nuns and students don’t use crappy language like they do in other colleges, thus people have created this image.

We really grew up here because there was learning-we were very serious about our micro and macro economics, and there was fun-Coffee shops at Taj and Maurya were a regular hangout because they were so close to college, Nirulas at Chankayapuri was almost like a second canteen for us. There is a narrow lane behind JMC where we used to hang out during winters eating peanuts and chatting, practicing for the dramatics and debating societies.

Many of the girls’ boyfriends used to come to meet them at the college gate and there was lot of competition about whose boyfriend was the best looking.

I owe my career to JMC as this is where I was first spotted as a potential choreographer. During the college fest in my third year, I had got the first prize for choreography. I got immediate recognition after that.
