Boman Irani, a photographer, an ad-man and a self-confessed director’s actor, will next be seen in Perfect Mismatch, an Indo-American production. The romantic film set in Los Angeles also stars Anupam Kher, Nandana Sen and debutant Anubhav Anand.

In the movie, Irani plays a cranky Gujarati father whose daughter is in love with the son of a flamboyant Punjabi, played by Anupam Kher. “Together, Anupam and I are two oldies, who are based in LA and extremely finicky about their lineage,” says Boman. Interestingly, it’s the first film that has an entirely Western crew and an Indian cast. “If Slumdog Millionaire was an attempt to make an American film in India with the help of Indians, this is Indian film being made in America with the citizens of the United States,” he says.
Ask him if any of the jokes he cracked while hosting IIFA awards offended anyone, he says, “To my knowledge, no one is
offended. For those who did get offended, I have nothing to say. It was just a joke.”
So will we see him take on filmmaking anytime soon? “Of course. But not yet. I need enough finances so that my family does not suffer because of my experiment,” he quips.
