Cycle Rickshaws — that’s what Delhiites will commute on during the upcoming Commonwealth Games. And no ordinary rickshaws will do for the Capital’s big event. Fifty fashion designers, along with 100 students from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), are working on 50 ‘green vehicles’ in time for the games.

“It’s a joint project by the FDCI and the NIFT. We wanted to do something creative and very Indian. Four designs by Rajesh Pratap Singh, Rahul Jain and Gunjan Arora, Nitin Bal Chauhan and Samant Chauhan are ready,” says FDCI president Sunil Sethi.

Each rickshaw will carry the signature style of the designers. Other participating designers include JJ Valaya, Varun Bahl, Rahul Gandhi, Rohit Khanna, Ranna Gill, Rina Dhaka and Anita Dongre. These rickshaws will be used at Games venues and within the Delhi University campus.
