Student volunteers are game for CWG. Read on to know more.

With barely two months to go for the Commonwealth Games, the Games’s Organising Committee is, among other things, busy training its volunteers. And many people who are training as volunteers for the biggest sporting spectacle in Delhi’s history, are university students.

Vipul Bakshi, 19, a member of the ceremony supporter team, says, “The Games will not only help us learn about conducting an international event of this magnitude, but also teach us tackle emergency situations.”

A few are hoping that their experience as a volunteer in the Games will give them an edge in career opportunities.

With reports about leaking stadiums, financial scams and failed deadlines, we wonder if it will affect the morale.

Garvit Nagia, 19, who has just undergone an orientation as a volunteer, says, “We are

hosting the event because we are capable of doing it. The success of the Games will depend largely on us, how we conduct ourselves and how we tackle the crisis situations.”

A similar sentiment was echoed by Apurva Goyal, another young volunteer, who says, “It’s not the time to get involved in such negative things. We must rather focus on our talents so that we can give our best to the Games.”
