She doesn’t like referring to her marriage with actor Ranvir Shorey as a secret affair, but Konkana Sen Sharma admits that she didn’t want to talk about it much in the media. And even though she wanted to follow suit about news of her expecting a baby, she realised how tough that would be. “The marriage wasn’t a secret as such,” she jokes, adding, “I really didn’t want to talk about it. But yes, we are starting a family, and I am pregnant.”

Sex sells
The actor, whose film Mirch, is due to release this weekend, followed by Iti Mrinalini towards the end of the year, is hard at work. When asked whether she feared that the film might be labelled as a bold one for Indian audiences, she says, “The film addresses a woman’s sexuality, something very few films do. It’s not a serious take, but a funny one. And it is done in a very witty and sophisticated manner. I don’t think Vinay (director Vinay Shukla) has the sensibility to make something vulgar or crass.”

The movie revolves around a struggling filmmaker, who finally gets a producer and who feels that only sex sells. That is when the protagonist comes up with four different stories, two of which Sen-Sharma is part of. “The theme of all four stories is women’s sexuality. Everyone feels women have no libido; this film sees them take charge. In one story, I play a Rajasthani queen. Now she can’t send a dirty text to her lover right? So those two have to come up with ways to communicate,” the actor says.
