Delhi played host to important guests yet again on Tuesday evening, as the Prime Minister of Japan, Yoshihiko Noda and first lady Hitomi Noda arrived in the city on a short visit to India. And, they relished idli and paranthas in town.

The couple, on a two-day business trip to the country on December 27-28, stayed at the Taj Palace hotel’s grand presidential Tata suite. The Japanese premier and his wife, accompanied by their business delegation, were assured a homely stay in the city.

Since the couple had expressed their desire to try out Indian food, the hotel’s executive chef Rajesh Wadhwa created the Indian-European platter including paranthas, idlis and pan-seared fish.

A special Hana program, including Japanese amenities such as robes (Yukatas) and a tea ceremony — was also designed for them. The Japanese PM was also scheduled to meet Kolaveri Di singer Dhanush. The South artist was invited for a state dinner hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the Japanese premier.
