Actor Irrfan Khan, known as one of the best performers in the country today, says as a child his only motive was to become famous and change people’s perception towards him. “I just wanted to become somebody. I wanted to change the perception of people towards me. That was my basic motto,” said the actor, who has achieved critical acclaim for most of his films, most popular among them, Namesake, Paan Singh Tomar, and Maqbool.
The 46-year-old, who was speaking at the launch of author Vikas Swarup’s book Accidental Apprentice, added, “Initially, I just wanted to become famous and I wanted to become a player. But I didn’t get any support from my family.” Irrfan also says that the huge opportunities that Bollywood promised drew him towards it.
“I thought to myself that there are only 11 players (in cricket) so there is a limitation in the number of people who will finally make the cut. However, there is no such limitation for actors and also unlike in cricket there isn’t anything like a selection board. You have to work on yourself and your talent can become a weapon.”
