Delhi University campus is buzzing with Holi excitement. The festival may be a day away, but students have been playing holi since the last two to three days.

“We are throwing water balloons in our college canteen,” says Simran Narang, a student of Khalsa College. “There is more action outside our campus gate than inside,” says Kartika Singh, a student of Lady Shri Ram College for Women. She adds that girls have been regularly hit by water balloons outside the college gates over the past week.

Some are disappointed at the lack of action in their college. “The PM of the student parliament was really excited about playing holi and roaming around covered in colour, when he got busted by the principal. So we have no plans of any colourful celebration on campus this year,” says a student of Hindu College on the condition of anonymity.

As for plans for D-Day, Abhinav, a student at Shri Ram College of Commerce says, “We’ll be collecting outside our hostel and go around the area from Vijay Nagar to Hudson lane and then Kamla Nagar. We’ll sneak in bhang into our hostel and have it in the morning with milk. Then we’ll go on our holi round in a big procession with dhol, throwing colour at everybody on the way, especially pretty girls.”

The girls say they won’t mind if classmates involve them in the fun. “But if random people throw balloons at us… that’s not acceptable,” says Jhanvee Pandey of Miranda College.

Taking advantage of the long weekend, some students are planning to hit nearby getaways. “We’ll drive to Gurgaon and celebrate at a friend’s place,” says Farooq, a Hindu College student.
