In Bazaar Guliyan, the wholesale market near Jama Masjid, Harry Potter crackers are the new bright idea full of sound and fury. Packed attractively in boxes with picture of Daniel Radcliffe, the cracker is priced at Rs 80 per pack. Says SK Jain of Friends Combination, “This is becoming popular with kids who know about Harry Potter.” The other new attraction is Flower and Fountains, a two-in-one cracker with an anaar and chakhri together priced at Rs 150 for 5 pieces.

A walk down the bazaar reveals that cracker packs with faces of Bollywood stars like Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai, Aamir Khan, Sonali Bendre are the most preferred. Jain says, “People want to buy crackers with their favourite actress on it.” And they don’t even mind their contrasting screen personas. Vidya Balan, for instance, is a Hot Mirchi here that releases shooting sparks and is priced at Rs 350. And it’s a curvy Kareena Kapoor that’s a hit with the buyers. Says cracker seller Rahul, “Kareena looks better with curves and not size 0. Hamein to purani Kareena hi patakha lagti hai.”
