Actor Khushboo Sundar, who hit headlines in 2005 when she spoke in favour of pre-marital sex and live-ins, is happy with the recent Madras High Court ruling that said if a couple in the right legal age indulge in sexual gratification, it will be considered a valid marriage.
Eight years ago, 23 criminal cases were filed against her with charges of obscenity and outraging the modesty of a woman in view of her controversial stand. Eventually, in 2010, she won all the cases, and now, the Chennai-based actor feels even more triumphant.
“I’m glad that our country is ready to accept these things, and not brush such realities under the carpet,” said the 42-year-old actor-turned-politician, adding, “It’s a very strong stand taken by the Madras High Court...a very very broad-minded and progressive judgement indeed. I spoke in favour of live-in relationships years ago, and some 2,000 odd people gathered outside my house to protest, pelting stones at me, and cases were filed against me. I still believed that if two consenting adults decide to stay together or engage in pre-marital sex, the society shouldn’t have any problem with it. This judgement is a win for every individual.”
