He wrote: "I'm going to pick up a wayward tranny on the way home. Not a tranny who knows where she's going. I'm talking a chick with a d**k who's lost (sic)."

Almost an hour later, the 31-year-old star seemed to think better of his post, writing: "I can't believe that last tweet made it past my internal Standards and Practices department."

It's not the first time the singer has bragged about his sexual conquests on the internet.

Last month, he boasted he had "slept" with nine science-fiction geeks dressed as Japanese manga heroine Sailor Moon at Comic-Con in San Diego, California.

John said: "This weekend at Comic-Con I slept with nine Sailor Moons. Not an easy task when you're dressed like a Stormtrooper (sic)."

In May, John - who has been single since he split from 'Marley and Me' star Jennifer Aniston earlier this year – used the social networking website to brag he had persuaded "dozens" of women to leave red lipstick marks on his face during a night out in Los Angeles.
