A smiling Katie Holmes spoke her first public words on Wednesday after filling for divorce from her husband of five years, Tom Cruise on Friday.
The 33-year-old was seen enjoying the American Independence day with daughter Suri.
“I’m alright,” the New York Daily News quoted her as saying, as she pushed a shopping cart carrying the couple’s adorable daughter.
“Thank you,” she said graciously.
The mother-daughter duo was spotted buying buys ground beef, hamburger rolls, strawberries and bananas as they got ready to celebrate Independence Day without Cruise.
The former Dawson’s Creek star flashed a grin as she strolled the aisles of a Whole Foods grocery store in Chelsea.
Holmes also grabbed a new sun hat, which a laughing Suri plopped on her head to mug for her appreciative mother.
They were accompanied by a security guard on their Wednesday morning shopping spree.
As they left the store, 6-year-old Suri gave her doting mother a big holiday hug.
Holmes is seeking sole legal custody of Suri in her divorce filing.
The brief outing came a day after her estranged husband Cruise spent his 50th birthday flying alone to California.
