Twilight star Kristen Stewart has apologised for comparing paparazzi photos of herself to images of a woman being raped, saying that her choice of words were wrong.
Her comments in an interview to a British magazine sparked outrage, with many charity campaigners and spokespeople for rape victims’ advocacy organisations slamming the actress. But the 20-year-old actress has admitted to have committed a mistake. “I really made an enormous mistake – clearly and obviously. And I’m really sorry about my choice of words. I’ve made stupid remarks before, and I’ve always reasoned: ‘Whatever. They can think what they want,’” she added. But in this instance, Stewart feels compelled to address the situation.
“‘Violated’ definitely would have been a better way of expressing the thought. People thinking that I’m insensitive about this subject rips my guts out. I made a big mistake,” she said. Stewart had said describing photos of her taken by paparazzi, “The photos are so... I feel like I’m looking at someone being raped.”
