There were no lights on, yet people’s energy was at its peak on Saturday night from 8:30-9:30pm, as the Capital celebrated an hour of darkness. Over a thousand people gathered at India Gate and grooved to rocking numbers belted out by the band Euphoria as part of the third edition of Earth Hour, a global initiative on climate change.
“It was a wonderful idea to have an open concert by Euphoria. Many people who came for the concert, would have stayed home and not cared to switch off the lights. So it was very wise on WWF’s part to organise an event like this,” said Sharmishtha Chatterjee, a DU student, who came to attend the concert. Hotels across Delhi also did their bit. One such was Hotel Le Méridien, which switched off all inessential lights and invited all their guests to light candles in their lawns.
