The Vidya Balan-Rani Mukherji project, No One Killed Jessica, based on the Jessica Lall murder case, hit a wrong note this week. The Vice Chancellor of the University, where the crew was shooting, was barred from entering his own university.Outraged, Vice Chancellor of GGS IP University, Dr D K Bandopadhyay, stalled the shoot and ordered inquiry to find out who permitted the movie to be shot in the premises of the university during peak admission season without his consent.
“I didn’t know about a film shoot happening in the university. I was shocked to see the rush and embarrassed not to be allowed inside the campus,” rues Bandopadhyay. He says that though the consultant of the Centre For Media Studies got the approval from the Dean, the file never reached his table. “So, I asked the unit to complete its work and vacate the university premises,” he adds.
Bandopadhyay recollects that a huge mob had gathered to catch a glimpse of Vidya Balan. Apparently, Bandopadhyay had even threatened to sue the producers. Director, Rajkumar Gupta rubbishes rumours and says that he was filming a chaotic sequence with 200 extras. “We had the permission not just from university authorities, but also from the police,” he adds.
Admitting that Bandopadhyay’s car wasn’t allowed inside, production manager Shubh informs that their contract doesn’t allow any vehicles in the shooting premises. Arpita Khanna, a student present on the campus on the said day says that the shoot created too much chaos on a working day.
