As life throws lesson after lesson ruthlessly across your way, you realise what wonderful beings your teachers were, no matter how strict they seemed. At least the whole city seems to feel that way on Teachers’ Day, with not just schools, but even colleges, making the occasion special for its guiding lights.

“We have fixed a white-board in our college where any student who wants to write something for professors, can go ahead and put down his or her greetings”, says Karishma Vaid, a third year student at Kalindi College.

“We are celebrating Teachers’ Day for the first time in our college this time. There’s a special assembly and we will be giving greeting cards,”, says Nikita Gupta, third year, Kamla Nehru College.

The ongoing Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) strike has done little to dampen the spirit of the students.

“We love our teachers and want to make them feel really special. In fact, since they are stressed from the strike, it is only more of a reason to make them smile!” says Prashanthi, a second year student Lady Shri Ram college.

Teachers, too, are loving all the attention, though what matters the most to them is the love and respect of their students. “My college doesn’t really celebrate Teachers’ Day, but we do get personal greetings. Sometimes, it’s sad, because it’s our day and still treated ordinarily,” says Rashmi Chaudhary, professor, Kalindi College.

“As long as we get recognition and love from our students, it does not really matter whether the college celebrates this day or not,” smiles VK Sewak, professor, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce.
