Madonna sued over clothing range

A clothing company is taking legal action against Madonna, claiming that the singer has ripped off the 'Material Girl' trademark for her new clothing range with daughter Lourdes.

A clothing company has filed a lawsuit against pop star Madonna claiming the singer has used their 'Material Girl' trademark for her clothing range with daughter Lourdes.

Madonna who worked on a range of clothes entitled Material Girl with her 13-year-old daughter is being sued by LA Triumph for using the same name as their clothing collection, reports contactmusic.com

"Our client and its predecessor have been continually selling similar clothes in similar retail outlets at similar price points under the Material Girl brand since at least 1997 and Madonna and her new-found company do not have the right to trade in the same space under this brand," lawyer Peter told X17online.

Chris Arledge, an intellectual property lawyer, said: "As a result of their acts, our client faces a risk of being subsumed by Madonna's profile, obvious worldwide notoriety and the massive spending campaign by Madonna, her company and retailers on her behalf."

Last month, Lourdes' father Carlos Leon admitted the teenager was the "creative force" of the clothing range, which is sold in US department store Macy's.
