Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire says he had to shed a whopping 20 pounds in five weeks to play a kidnapped marine soldier in the new movie Brothers.

Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire says he had to shed a whopping 20 pounds in five weeks to play a kidnapped marine soldier in the new movie Brothers.

In the film, the actor will be seen as a marine who is captured during combat and the role required him to shed a huge amount of weight to represent the physical transformation of his character, reports accesshollywood.com.

"I dropped a bunch of weight. Through shooting and a break, I had five weeks, and I lost about 20 pounds, which is a lot of weight considering where I started out at. It was very intense. I just didn't eat a lot and worked out a tonne. I got into a real focused mindset. I knew what was necessary, I knew how long it was going to take, and I just had to do it," he said.
