New Metro Corridor from Yamuna Bank to Noida City Centre has become functional. It is the first Metro line that has entered Uttar Pradesh. Finally the daily commuters from Noida to Delhi, or vice versa, can breathe easy. The commuting between these two places had always meant spending more money on autos or travelling in rickety buses.
Sudeep Duggal, an engineering student, says, “We have been waiting for it ever since the project was announced. The daily commuting to office from Noida to Delhi is not only time-consuming but expensive too. For my friends, travelling by public transport to my house was a nightmare.”
Commuting between Delhi and Noida meant spending anything between Rs 250 to Rs 300 daily. With the Metro coming in, this might become better. Swati Tandon, who works in a media firm in Noida, says, “The bus service is OK but it’s horrifying to travel in them during peak hours. The autos just rip you apart! They charge Rs 100 from Mayur Vihar to Sector 18, Noida, a distance that is just eight to nine kilometers. But their reason is that they have to cross state borders. Now I will take a Metro to Noida and from there maybe a cycle rickshaw to office. Hope I’ll save a lot this way.”
This Metro line has also connected Noida to faraway destinations of Delhi. Now it could be easier to travel to, say, North Campus or Rajouri Garden. Nidhi Malik, who lives in Mayur Vihar, says, “My best friend lives in Rohini. Now she can come to Noida to catch a movie, which she could have never thought of doing before. We always had to meet in CP — the Central meeting point. This Metro line is just fabulous!”
