The 26-year-old Olympic champion and the former Miss California had been dating on and off for several years, the New York Post reported.

She even travelled with him in July to the FINA World Championships in Shanghai.

According to sources, the couple broke up a few weeks ago, and Phelps is telling friends he’s single.

The swimmer spent New Year’s Eve partying with six guy friends and six girls at Chelsea hot spot Avenue.

Meanwhile, according to her Twitter feed, Johnson spent the night in LA with friends.
