"I don’t know what I did to deserve Hrithik,” says Suzanne Roshan about her husband. “It’s really fun to know that the man I fell in love with has become the hottest man in the country.”
Speaking on The First Ladieswith Abu Sandeep on NDTV Good Times, airing tonight, Suzanne — normally seen as a loved but docile partner to a red-hot celebrity — reveals a surprising fact. The Khan clan, says the daughter of actor-director Sanjay Khan, “is opinionated and completely forthright in what we feel”. In contrast, “In Hrithik’s family, everyone has an opinion but nobody likes to voice it.”
Suzanne, an interior decoration by occupation, is a big James Bond fan, and she believes that her husband is the man to play that role. “But Hrithik always says that he can never be a Bond because James Bond is British!”
Being the wife of one of cinema’s handsomest men could cause insecurities, but Suzanne says with a laugh, “Not really, never. Unfortunately, he’s never given me a reason to be [insecure]!”
About her first encounter with Hrithik, Suzanne recalls, “We were both at a traffic signal, in our cars. And we both looked at each other... I recognised him, and he knew who I was, and that instant, something happened. I don’t know what, but we both pretended like we didn’t notice each other. Then as we drove on, I was looking at him in the rear-view mirror. And when his car passed me, he told me he was doing the same.” The two, married for nine years now, are still working on keeping the romance alive.
