Actress Sandhya Mridul, who will be next seen in The Great Indian Butterfly, says the industry has finally taken note of her talent. Akanksha Agarwal interviews the actress.
Tell us something about your new movie, TheGreat Indian Butterfly.
It's a story about an unhappy marriage, where I play the bitter wife who is deeply unsatisfied with life. The couple decide to take a journey to the valley of butterflies in search of happiness, peace and one more chance. It's a philosophical movie exploring different values and how they come to matter in our lives. It was the toughest shoot of my life. We were constantly on the road and I had a major bout of sunstroke.
It definitely sounds off-beat cinema?
I feel my time has finally come. I have stood my ground and waited for good roles to come to me and now l am getting my due. I am also very happy for seniors like Irrfan Khan whom I have seen struggling, but they are also getting their deserved share of fame now. He is now as popular as Saif Ali Khan. The era of actors has finally come; perhaps we can now walk hand in hand with the stars.
What do you think have been your defining roles?
My most challenging role was Waisa Bhi Hota HaiPartII. I played a tough cop and my emotions had to be subtle. As a person, I am very expressive, so the role was quite difficult. In Saathiya, my challenge was to share the same screen space with Rani Mukherjee and still be noticed.
How was the Jhalak Dikhla Ja experience?
It was a challenge for me in many ways-a test of my talent, endurance and, above all.my patience. Jhalak was an institution; it turned out to be a lot of things for me. People told me I was too blunt for a reality show but the audience accepted me for who I was and appreciated the fact that I said whatever l felt.
How was the Jhalak Dikhla Ja experience?
It was a challenge for me in many ways-a test of my talent, endurance and, above all.my patience. Jhalak was an institution; it turned out to be a lot of things for me. How real is a reality show?
Fakeness is always a part of television. However personally I was as real as I could be on the show.l enjoy dancing a lot and that's why I decided again to be a part of Ustaadon Ka Ustaad.
