Although he aspired to take up direction even while he was busy chasing his acting career, Singh has finally zeroed in on the subject. “It’s an intimate film. I’m working on the story. It is based, on human relationships. I will not be acting in it because I think it will be a risky proposition to act in my directorial debut film,” he says. But he is quite confident of himself as a director.

Write choice
While he feels it’s too early to reveal anything more, he reveals that he’s writing the script with a particular actor in mind, and will approach him after the script is complete. “It could be an actor I’ve worked with.. or maybe not,” he smiles, declining to give away anything more about his dream project.

Coming up
Till then, he’s awaiting Lahore, a film based on sports.. Toss, a thriller.. Shout, a horror flick.. Adlabs’ Mirch, and Mohan Das – A Man Lost In His Own Nation, which he’s eagerly looking forward to.

“It’s directed by Mazhar Kamran, the cinematographer of Satya and Kaun and is an interesting story about a man whose identity has been stolen by another man through fraudulent means.. and how he deals with it,” he elaborates.

When asked why he hasn’t teamed up with mentor Ram Gopal Varma after Aag, in which he re-played Samba as Taambe, Singh says, “I met him when he was starting Aghyaat. But I was preparing for a role and had lost a lot of weight. Ramu was shocked to see me looking so lean.”

Unfortunately, the project he had shed kilos for was aborted. “Recession had gripped the industry too by then. So the
film didn’t take off. It’s okay, it happens. But I got back into building my body and getting back into shape for other movies,” he enthuses.
