Anoop Desai aka Noop Dogg is the hottest thing in the American Idol circuit these days. But Americans aren’t the only ones grooving to his tunes. Apart from making himself heard in the cyber space, the Indian-origin singer has also struck a cord with fans across the capital. Youngsters in Delhi have started following the show after he made it to the top 13, and are even revisiting his previous performances on YouTube.

Abhilekh Srivastava, a medical student says that after Obama, Desai is the hot topic of discussion coming out of US. “After Sanjaya Malakar, [former American Idol winner] who couldn’t even sing, Anoop is a welcome addition to the show,” he says. Neha Arora, an English Honours student says that even though voting for him is not possible for fans in India, she roots for Anoop. And with the elimination round being aired in India tonight, she is optimistic Desai will make it without a problem. “I’m sure he’ll go really far, if not win the show,” she adds.

In a recent interview to AP, 22-year-old Desai confessed he wanted to collaborate with rapper Kanye West. “I’m definitely going to pick his brain — we’ll see if he has anything to lend me too,” he joked. The college student is also a hit with judge Simon Cowell, who has repeatedly emphasised on his “likeability” and “personality”.
