Now, a deo for birds!

Scientists are in the process of developing a deodorant for New Zealand’s native birds, to stop them falling prey to introduced predators because of their body odour.

Scientists are in the process of developing a deodorant for New Zealand’s native birds, to stop them falling prey to introduced predators.

Canterbury University reseacher Jim Briskie said these birds suffered from body odour, making them an easy target for predators.

He said the kiwi smelled like mushrooms or ammonia, possibly contributing to its endangered status. The experiment has been made possible by the Marsden scientific research fund.
