When they say the wedding season’s on, they don’t just mean it for humans. Lola, a UK-based Yorkshire Terrier, recently had a £20,000 (approx R14,00,000) wedding with her Facebook beau Mugly. Closer home, too, canines are busy entering the wedlock like never before.

Dr Vishal Sharma of Petsshadi.com, a year-old matrimonial website for dogs where 8-10 pet woners enroll for match-finding every day, says, “People are taking pet marriages very seriously — if the picture of the prospective bride or groom doesn’t appeal to the other party, the alliance is rejected. If the marriage materialises, people shop for pet trousseau, invite friends, cut a cake and even buy presents for the couple.”

“I found a bride for my dog through a common friend. We carried chocolates and a dog collar for her went we went to see the bride,” says Micky Bohra, a dog lover. “Even if the pet doesn’t know that it is actually getting married, I’m sure it will enjoy the love and attention showered on it,” says actor Tusshar Kapoor.
