Now, I’m competing with the boys: Priyanka
Priyanka Chopra on life after the success of Fashion and Dostana. Hiren Kotwani chats up the actress.
Priyanka Chopra on life after

Fashion
and
Dostana
.
Are you basking in the success of
Fashion
and
Dostana
?
You bet.
Fashion
has broken the myth that heroine-centric films don’t work. Today, its closest competition is
Dostana
. (Laughs) And that has me too.
Aren’t you forgetting Kareena Kapoor and
Golmaal Returns
?
(Shrugs) That’s in a different space. Yes,
Golmaal Returns
came along with
Fashion
and is still going strong. But
Dostana
is more recent and the buzz is very positive.
You must have pinned your hopes on
Fashion
to end the flop run.
Yes, if my film doesn’t click, it hurts.
Apparently, you’re upset that Kangana Ranaut walked away with all the rave reviews for
Fashion
.
Maybe two reviews out of 35 just described my performance as “competent”. The majority felt that every actress did justice to her part.
Would you do a film about two women in love?
Depends on the character and the script. If the sensibilities are right, I would do it, yes.
Has a woman ever made a pass at you?
Yes. Once, this woman came up to me, touched my hand and suggested we get together for a drink. I told her I was very flattered, but I don’t swing. I’m all for gay rights. Everyone has the right to choose his or her sexual preference.
Quite a lot of attention shifted from your
Dostana
gold swimsuit to John Abraham’s butt?
I’m so glad that it did. There’s no woman left to compete with.. so now I’m competing with the boys.
Has Harman Baweja seen
Fashion
and
Dostana
?
Yes, he really liked them.
UTV’s two-movie deal with Katrina Kaif has sparked speculation that it hasn’t renewed your contract after a string of duds.
How do you know we haven’t renewed the deal? We’re working on the next plan of action.
It seems you’re contemplating marriage in a couple of years?
(Shocked) Where did that come from? I’m not even mentally prepared for marriage yet.
What kind of a guy would you marry?
Umm, he should be intelligent, well-informed, have a sense of humour which would make me laugh. He should be spontaneous, like leaving for a trip out of the blue. He should be taller than me, well-dressed, and smell good too. He must respect his family.. his entire
khandaan
actually.
Does Harman Baweja fit the bill?
I don’t know, I haven’t checked him out in all those aspects.
It seems you’ve refused serious money to perform at a New Year’s Eve show.. so you can be with your family and Harman Baweja.
I’ve been turning down offers to dance at five star hotels since three years because I’m not comfortable with it. A concert is great, like the Nokia concert I did with Nelly Furtado and Shahid Kapur two years ago. Even performing at
weddings is okay since it’s like a concert and you don’t have the audience drinking and dancing. God forbid, I hope I never reach a stage where I have to perform only for money. And see if some good concert does come up for December 31, I just might to do it.
