The ongoing issue of division of royalty between film producers and music composers may soon have a solution. A possible settlement has been reached after heated arguments between actor-producer Aamir Khan and lyricist Javed Akhtar, and more recently, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and singer Sonu Niigaam.

Chopra met HRD minister Kapil Sibal last week. One solution could be that the producer and composer decide their share of royalties and other fees by a contract signed before a film goes on the floors. The copy of the settlement has been sent to the concerned people.

Niigaam maintained that Akhtar will take a final call, but said, “We are ready to give away 50 per cent of it to the producers and split 25 per cent each between composers and lyrics writers. But the producers want 100 per cent. You can’t ask people for charity for a hospital and then make a palace.” Chopra, however, said, “The final decision will be in favour of the industry.”
