Listen: Delhi’s new sound check
This Thursday will be a litmus test for the much awaited — and dare we say, hyped — Mumbai-club BlueFrog’s claims of being ‘a revolutionary integrated music project’. After conquering the Mumbai live music scene with a gig-per-day commitment, BlueFrog is bringing its sound and design to Delhi next week. Kicking things off on their opening night will be acclaimed French trip-hop group No Jazz and UK’s house DJ Paul Thomas, with performances by the Jalebee Cartel, Moog Conspiracy, among others within the first two weeks. Attend: Picasso comes to town
FN Souza once wrote of Picasso, ‘Now that Picasso is dead, I’m the greatest!’ Enough to explain the greatness of both the artists whose work will be shown in the capital starting tomorrow. The month-long ‘Picasso Souza’ exhibition will showcase the creations of the greats of modern art movement. The exhibition will include oil paintings, etchings and ceramics of both Picasso and Souza and also explore the exchange of ideas, intellectual movements between the two. Acclaimed photographer Dayanita Singh’s latest body of work titled ‘House of Love’ showcases her subjects ranging from bucolic landscapes and congested cityscapes to portraits of friends, acquaintances and strangers, even arrangements of objects found in homes and museums. For her recent work, Singh has combined black and white with colour photographs shot throughout the world and grouped according to themes such as ‘continuous cities’, ‘theft in a cake shop’, ‘being of darkness’. The Andhra-born artist’s work — that explores pain, violence and violation — includes faith and devotion, influenced by medieval poetry and mythology. His work ‘Why cross the boundary’ has three women poets Karaikkal Amma, Mahadevi Akka and Lal Ded, who wrote in different languages and lived in different times. Exploring Delhi’s evolution, the Yellow Line Project brings choreographers and artists to present seven dance films based on the capital. The focus will be public spaces in Delhi, created around a specific urban site, be it a heritage spot or a foot bridge.
