Pick your party

So, what’s the formula? A dozen crates of beer, a well-stocked iPod, friends, friends of friends, basically enough people to fill the house on the weekend? That’s what it takes to throw a party, right? Or so you thought.

Parties are no longer generic beer-guzzling affairs. There’s a lot more to it. One week, you could have a casino-theme party; next week, it could be a spa party; and the week after, even a vampire-theme could do, minus Edward Cullen on the guest-list perhaps. Parties are serious fun, and party planning, a serious affair.

Party Hunterz, on Pali Hill, boasts of some rare and crazy masks, wigs and carnival outfits, apart from the kinky stuff for that one hell of a bachelorette party. Store manager Nicole says, “We have planners who design the party theme, depending on the client’s budget and needs. We have a set list of about 10 to 12 themes, which we change periodically.

But among the popular ones, you can pick pirate, casino, jungle, Hollywood and more.” However, they won’t decide the food and the venue. But you could get décors to disposables like loot bags, chains, necklaces and hats, matching the theme, all under one roof. Party planning here starts at Rs 5,000 onwards.

There’s more to theme parties. You could call a DJ, get a band to do a gig, or even get belly dancers! Eurica Kudwa of Theme Party Organisers says, “Props have to be different for each theme. For an Arabian night, you need hookahs; for teenager birthdays we do a spa theme. It’s quite a hit with young girls and kitty parties. For corporate parties we charge Rs 25,000 onwards.” Arranging food is not their forté.

But there are planners like Vieda Events Wedding & Party Planner & Organizers, who do it all — from décor, to venue, and even food.
