Pooja Shetty Deora and Aarti Shetty’s Walkwater Media may have a lot of co-productions in the pipeline, but Deora says that they’re focusing on making their own films now.
“There are divisions looking at co-productions, but I’m focused on developing our own films now,” Deora says. “We want Walkwater to be identified as a brand that makes good, experimental films in interesting formats, with new directors and scripts.”
Though her company’s first Hindi film,
Tere Bin Laden
, starring Pakistani actor Ali Zafar, is releasing today, Deora says that she plans to spend the next few months deciding which developing idea to take up as a film.
“We have a bunch of ideas, and I think we will work silently for the next one year to figure out what our next step in films should be,” she reveals. “I don’t want to do shoddy work just because people expect us to make something soon.”
Deora adds that the only idea that she is seriously considering at the moment is an adaptation of an English book. “The book’s a sweet, romantic story. I’ve wanted to adapt it for sometime now. But we are still a good six months away from anything concrete,” she says.

Walkwater has dabbled in Marathi cinema with Renuka Shahane’s critically acclaimed,
Rita
, but Deora says that until she finds another exciting Marathi script, she won’t make a film “just because everyone’s setting up a regional production house.”
