Pub crawls are officially scheduled to hit the shores of Mumbai this weekend. A tried-and-tested concept in European cities, pub crawls have a group of people traveling from one bar to another on a single night. The trend is especially popular with the tourists with the beer crawls in Munich and Brussels, pub crawls at Sydney’s King Cross and New York being something legends are made of.
It’s official now
Back in Bombay, the first official bar crawl is due to begin in the South of the city this Saturday. It will kick-start at sundown and wind up around midnight. The first edition is being launched by www.bestofbombay.com in association with Seagram and Party Hard Drivers. The former specialises in driving bar patrons home after a drinking binge.
Currently 50 people from different parts of the city have registered for the session. It will start at Bootleggers and move on to Busaba, Soul Fry Casa (participants will stretch their vocal chords here at the karaoke nights) and Red Light. An open air BEST bus will drive them around.
One and be done
In keeping with the universal pub-hopping rule of “one and be done.” Each participant will get one drink on the house. After the bashes are over, the party hoppers will be dropped home in their cars. Says Aditi Shah of the leisure website, “We strongly believe in the ‘don’t drink and drive campaign which is why we have been providing chauffeurs from Party Hard Drivers to drop people home.”
Every guest will be charged Rs 500 and will have to be above the prescribed drinking age of 21 years. The beer crawl is scheduled to be held on the first and third Saturday’s of very month. The organisers plan to branch out to the suburbs in the coming weeks.
